On a brisk January afternoon, a select few members of the SoGlos team experienced Cheltenham Racecourse’s corporate hospitality firsthand, as guests in Ellenborough Park’s private box, during the Festival Trials Day 2019.
Ellenborough Park’s general manager Marwan Hemchaoui hosted the unique sporting afternoon for special guests and members of the media, including SoGlos, Sunday Times Style and Culture Trip, which began when we climbed into a fleet of Range Rovers and took the private back roads from Ellenborough Park to Cheltenham Racecourse.
As the five-star hotel in Southam, on the outskirts of Cheltenham, is situated just a few fields from the famous racecourse, the private access not only ensured guests beat the traffic, but was an excellent way to spot the VIPs flying in by helicopter too.
With seven races on the card, the fun winter afternoon offered a thrilling chance to soak-up the fixture at Prestbury Park; a great chance for seasoned racegoers, trainers and bookies to also pick up clues about which horses are likely to perform two months later at The Festival™.
Kicking off with the popping of Champagne corks and ending with an excellent cheeseboard, an exceptional quality four-course meal was served between races – with the catering at Jockey Club Venues, under regional executive chef Tom Parry, proving itself as one of the best offerings in the country, never mind Gloucestershire.
