There’s no explaining why Gloucestershire plays home to more of its fair share of quirky events, from the death defying cheese rolling to the wince-inducing shin kicking, but one thing’s for sure, online video viewers across the world can’t get enough of these local traditions – with SoGlos’s YouTube channel of original videos having just tipped a whopping 10 million views.
Topping the chart is a video of the 2009 cheese rolling at 4.5 million views, while footage of the 2008, 2007, 2012 and then 2011 events follow behind. The 2008 British Shin Kicking Championship video has notched up 255,995 views, with the 2007 Bourton-on-the-Water Football in the River not far off, at 198,564 views.
Jump on over to SoGlos’s dedicated channel and you’ll also find videos of the Sudeley Castle Ballooning Grand Prix (lookout for the BBC Gloucestershire team coming a little too close to the trees!), motor racing at Prescott Speed Hill Climb, Hogwarts Castle at Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, Sandford Parks Lido Christmas Swim and much more.
Our team of Cheltenham-based journalists pride themselves on knowing what makes a great Gloucestershire story, and we’re chuffed to see the SoGlos YouTube channel views reflecting just that.
